Sourcing & Harvesting

Single Origin, Sun-DriedCeremonial Grade Cacao

Cacao Bliss is made with raw, organic cacao. When crops grow at high altitudes, they produce more active ingredients. That's why we choose to source our cacao beans from Peru's Satipo province, positioned along the elevated eastern slope of the Andes.

Our ceremonial-grade cacao beans are sourced from Peru's elevated Satipo province.

After visiting more than a dozen harvesting operations in the region, we zeroed in on one partner who could actually meet our taste & quality standards. And it is the same source we've been using since day one.

Ceremonial-grade cacao refers to a traditional process used by indigenous communities for over 5,000 years. Once the cacao beans are harvested, they are laid out and dried slowly beneath direct sunlight for several days. This ancient process preserves the naturally-occurring phytonutrients and their wonderful health benefits.

Sun-drying is what makes cacao ceremonial grade.

Unlike commercial cacao processing - where high-heat industrial machinery strips out key nutrients, kills the flavor, and removes all the incredible health benefits of pure cacao.

Our traditional methods ensure you get to enjoy this ceremonial superfood the same way it's been prepared for thousands of years.

Testing

How Our Third-Party Testing Works

Every production batch of Cacao Bliss is independently tested for heavy metals, and microbial tested for mold and other toxins. We partner with SGS, an internationally accredited laboratory using ICP-MS methodology. We do not self-certify these results.

Heavy Metals in Soil

How Do Heavy Metals End Up In Food?

Most people don't realize it, but heavy metals like lead, cadmium, and arsenic occur naturally in the Earth's crust. That means anything grown in soil - even the most organic, pristine superfoods - absorb trace amounts. That includes leafy greens, root vegetables, coffee, and cacao.

Because these are naturally occurring minerals found in soil, levels can vary slightly from batch to batch, which is why we test every batch rather than relying on periodic annual testing.

With Cacao Bliss, you don't have to worry about heavy metals ruining your morning cacao ritual.

IV.

Allowable Limits

Who Sets The Limits On Heavy Metals & How?

Who actually decides what's "too much"? That's the job of regulatory bodies like the FDA, EPA, World Health Organization, and European Food Safety Authority. These organizations review the available science and set Maximum Allowable Limits: the thresholds beyond which regular exposure could cause harm.

And those limits aren't arbitrary. They're built around a simple but important idea: your body encounters trace amounts of heavy metals from lots of sources every day - the water you drink, the food you eat, the air you breathe. The limits are designed to account for all of that combined exposure, making sure no single source tips you over into territory that could affect your nervous system, your organs, or your long-term health.

What's worth knowing is that these standards are intentionally conservative. Regulators draw the line well before potential harm may occur to protect the most vulnerable people in a population. And as you'll see below, we aim well below those already-conservative limits.

All ppm values converted from mcg/day at 7.88 g serving size. Lead's % of strictest limit is calculated against the EU's 3.0 ppm standard - at 0.059 ppm, Cacao Bliss is 98% below that threshold.

All tested batches to date have passed our rigorous purity standards.

In short, we've never had a recall.

And we plan to keep it that way!
