Amla Berry: The Wonderberry That Helps Ward Off Disease

Amla Berry: The Wonderberry That Helps Ward Off Disease

Amla is the wonderberry you may not have met yet, but are going to want in on how to enjoy it. Also known as Indian Gooseberry, this nutrient-packed plant is commonly used in Ayurvedic medicine to help support overall health.

While not as commonly known as other superfood berries, we’re sharing why you’ll want to get your hands on the Amla berry.

The Top 5 Health Benefits of the Amla Berry

#1 Excellent Source of Vitamin C

Looking for a natural way to boost your vitamin C intake? Look no further than the Amla berry. This fruit packs in a whopping 600-700 mg of vitamin C per fruit.

With the RDA of vitamin C being 75 mg per day for adult women and 90 mg for adult men, even consuming a quarter of the fruit would exceed your daily requirements making this fruit a great way to show your immune system some love.

#2 Rich in Antioxidants

Antioxidants are free radical scavengers that help prevent damage to cells and DNA (aka oxidative damage). A diet containing plenty of antioxidant-rich foods may also help fight off chronic disease.

Amla berries happen to be a great source of antioxidants, giving us one more reason to enjoy this nutrient-packed fruit.

#3 Contains Anti-inflammatory Properties

We know that inflammation has been linked to chronic disease, so finding ways to reduce our inflammatory load is a key part of keeping our health in tip-top shape.

Our food choices are something we all have control over, and consuming an anti-inflammatory diet is a great protective measure for keeping inflammation at bay.

The amla fruit is rich in anti-inflammatory properties, and studies have found that it may even contain properties to help ward off cancer.

#4 Digestive Health Supporting

A healthy gut is central to our overall wellbeing, and nutrition is huge when it comes to keeping our digestive system running efficiently.

Amla berries have been shown to help support the gut, and may even help in supporting those with peptic ulcers and indigestion.

#5 May Help With Blood Sugar Control

Amla berries also happen to be rich in pectin, a dietary fiber that may help support blood sugar control. While more research on this potential benefit is needed, one study found promising results, showing that the amla fruit helped lower blood sugar levels.

Here in Scotland these berries are known as Gooseberries. I love them
but they can sometimes be a bit tart. Very popular here in Scotland.
